How to make the words bigger on an iPhone or iPad

Make the writing on your screen easy to read, in a few taps.

You can make the words on your iPhone or iPad larger. This does not hurt anything, and you can always change it back.

Step 1: Make the text bigger

  1. Open Settings. It is the gray icon with gears.
  2. Tap Display & Brightness.
  3. Tap Text Size.
  4. Drag the dot at the bottom to the right. The words above will grow as you drag. Stop when it is easy to read.

Step 2: Make the words darker (optional)

  1. Go back one screen to Display & Brightness.
  2. Turn on Bold Text. The switch turns green.

Step 3: Go even bigger

If the biggest size is still too small:

  1. Open Settings, then tap Accessibility.
  2. Tap Display & Text Size, then Larger Text.
  3. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes.
  4. Drag the dot to the right.

Zoom is another tool in Accessibility. It lets you magnify the whole screen with a double tap of three fingers. We can show you if you want it.

To undo it, go back to the same screen and drag the dot to the left, or turn the switch off.

We are happy to come over and set up your phone or iPad the way that is comfortable for you.
